Understanding Naache Commons

“I am so proud.  It is the beginning of future prosperity for our community, both now and for our future generations.

That’s why we call it Naache Commons. Naache (in the Beaver language) is ‘dreamer.’ Commons is, of course, ‘business.’ So, the dreamers can come together and do business together.”

Gary Oker, Elder, Councillor, Artist

Doig River First Nation

Doig River First Nation

Doig River First Nation (DRFN) is Tsááʔ ché ne dane, a proud Dane-zaa people indigenous to the upper Peace River region of BC and Alberta.  Our traditional base extends in all directions from Gat Tah Kwą̂, now called the city of Fort St. John. Today, our members participate in the modern economy while practicing our unique language, culture and traditions.

We've been recognized as a First Nation community of the excellence for our transparent and stable governance, our rich and active culture, and our progressive approach to business.  Through our hard work and long-term vision, we are reconnecting to the land our ancestors used for raising generations of proud Dane-zaa people with the Naache Commons development.
